Stress is something that seems to come easy to our generation. It shows up in my life way more than I would like to admit especially because my life isn’t all that stressful from the outside looking in. But when you add two jobs, no car, health problems and relationships into the mix, life can get pretty overwhelming. I find that taking time out for myself can make all the difference with stress levels and moods. Here are a few things that I find extremely useful to unwind from it all.
Go for a Walk // Going for a walk can be extremely calming. I’m not suggesting you power walk and work up a sweat but rather just take twenty minutes a day to walk around your neighborhood or walk to get a cup of coffee. The fitness aspect to walking twenty minutes a day is beneficial in itself but it’s also a good way to get alone time so throw on some headphones and go for it. Some days I just need to be alone or I want to escape from whatever is stressing me out. I’ve gone for twenty minute walks that turn into an hour or two and I never regret it. Whatever you took a break from will still be there when you get back but now you can tackle it with a clear mind and a positive attitude.
Have a Glass of Wine // Of course I suggest wine as a way to relax because well, I love wine. I love wine so much I get it delivered to my front door–Thank you Club W! Another reason I suggest it is because there have been many studies to show that a glass of wine a day is actually beneficial to your health. If you don’t believe me then check out this article from Health Magazine which explains all the benefits of having a glass of wine per day. Sometimes all you need is to get home, pour a glass of wine, and read a book. It helps clear your head and escape into a book while also enjoying how amazing wine is. Some days I even skip the book and I just sit out on the deck with a glass of wine and enjoy what’s happening around me. That could easily be done without the wine, but it’s definitely an added bonus.
Do Yoga // Yoga is good for de-stressing and good for your overall well-being but memberships are expensive. Don’t worry, there are plenty of ways around that. There is one YouTube channel called DoYouYoga which has excellent videos for free that you can add into your daily routine. Instead of watching that last episode on Netflix, turn on YouTube and do some quick relaxation. There are also plenty of books about yoga that show you a step-by-step guide, like this one below.
This book is great because along with yoga it includes meditation which if you’re like me you probably need to take some deep breaths. Sometimes, I don’t have time to do yoga but I can easily pause what I’m doing and just breathe. If you don’t have the time to do a twenty minute yoga video, sitting down and focusing on your breathing can help clear your head which we definitely all need sometimes.
I personally swear by these three things to help me relax because they’re all fun and convenient ways to unwind; adding them into your daily routine can do wonders for your mind and body. Two of these things take less than a half hour and are super easy to do! Plus, who doesn’t love having a glass of wine? Beat the stress and take time for yourself because the most important person in your life is you.
