When I first wrestled with the idea of starting a blog, I decided to tell a couple people. I wanted to see what people’s initial reaction would be. While many were supportive, I also got the response, “Why? What would you even blog about?” For some reason, this has stuck with me for the past year and a half. Did this person think I’m a bad writer? Did they think no one would care what I had to say? I honestly still don’t know why they responded in that way but it continues to bother me to this day.
As I’ve mentioned many times before, I really wasn’t sure if starting a blog was the best idea. I had always been active on Tumblr, but that doesn’t really require much real blogging. After graduating college in 2015, I needed a hobby; something that was more than just binge watching Netflix or going to the gym.
Through platforms such as Tumblr, it was easy for me to discover new things, feel inspired, and connect with others. A major part of being a blogger is that sense of connection to other people who are interested in similar things as me. Without the blogging community, I don’t think I would know so many people who share my interests.
As it turns out, I’ve been able to take my hobby of blogging, and integrate it into my career. I’ve worked at three organizations where blogging has been a huge responsibility of my role – definitely a perk of being passionate about content marketing.
Blogging provides me with an outlet, connection to others, and so much inspiration. I’ve learned so much about myself that I don’t think I would have if I never started this blog. I have also met many people both digitally and in person that share my passion for blogging and who also appreciate me and my blog.
Although I tend to put my blog on the back burner when times get stressful, I hope to utilize it as a creative outlet, as a way to manage that stress.
Through all this rambling and emotion, what I’m trying to say, is that I love blogging. I don’t regret starting my blog, though I may be discouraged from time to time. I love fashion, food, photography, and travel; and I love writing about it.
To answer the question at hand, I blog for me, and that’s how it will always be. Though, I am definitely thankful for all of the people I have met along the way.
