September book wrap up

welcome to my first monthly book wrap up! I am going to try to publish these every month, reviewing the books I read the month before and share my tbr for the month ahead. Let's jump in!

September was a great month for me! For the first time ever, I only "read" audiobooks. I've been getting into them more and more, and I find that they're great to listen to on walks or when I'm doing a task that requires little focus. I started with Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey, then I read Normal People by Sally Rooney, and I ended the month with Every Summer After by Carley Fortune.

Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey 4/5
I read a lot of fiction, but once in a while, a celebrity memoir draws me in. Greenlights was on my list for a while, and everyone LOVED it, so I finally gave it a listen. I loved that it was read by Matthew. I could feel the emotion through every story, and even though it was one-sided, I felt like we were having a conversation. He has a very *sexy* voice, so it was extremely nice to listen to 😉 it was also enjoyable to hear the backstory behind some of his movies that I’ve loved.

Normal People by Sally Rooney 4/5
Up until this book, I wouldn't have called myself a Sally Rooney fan. I always felt that her writing style just wasn't for me. I prefer fluffy, romantic, happy ending type reads, and Sally Rooney is simply not that. I read Beautiful World, Where are You back in March, and that was essentially my review of the book. However, Normal People was a different experience for me. This time, I listened to the book rather than reading it, which I think greatly helped me connect with the story and characters. I also think I felt a deeper connection to Connell and Marianne than the characters in BWWAY. Not a spoiler, but I will say I was not expecting the ending and I wasn't totally sure how to carry on with my day after finishing this book. Now, I'm going to go watch the Hulu show to compare! Plus, my friend told me that Sally Rooney makes Spotify playlists for her characters, which is really cool! You can check them out here.

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune 5/5
OKAY WOW. I had been seeing this book on bookstagram and booktok since before it came out. It came up as a suggestion on my Audible the other day, so I decided to finally give in to the hype. And it definitely lives up to the hype! I finished it way sooner than I thought I would because I couldn't bring myself to turn it off. The romance, the heartbreak, the family, the friendships, the 🌶 spice 🌶 — it was all perfect. I fell in love with Sam the moment he was introduced into the story, and I just knew I was about to get crushed (in a good way). This is the exact type of book I love reading, so it was the perfect way to end my month!

👻 keeping things spooky(ish) for my october reads! Stay tuned for next month to see how much of this spooky tbr pile I get through!
